Etymology: Ungusurculus: Name from Latin words 'ungulus' (= claw) and 'surculus' (= grapevine tendril), refers to the functional analogy with the pseudoclaspers and the specific shape of the inner pseudoclasper; komodoensis: Named for the type locality, Komodo between Flores and Sumbawa, Indonesia.

شعاع نرم باله پشتي (کل) : 80; شعاع نرم باله مخرجي: 61; مهره ها: 44. This species is distinguished by the following set of characters: vertebrae 12+32=44, D 80, A 61, D/A 26, V in D 2.1; anterior nostril located 1/3.5 the distance from upper lip to aggregate distance to anterior margin of eye; free pseudoclaspers 2 pairs, outer pseudoclasper wing-shaped with broad base and distally widened supporter with strong anterior hook (covered by ligament), the inner pseudoclasper short, with broad base, distally with 2 thin, short spines positioned oblique to axis of pseudoclasper; multiple cirri on snout and cheeks with 6 scale rows on upper part and 4 rows on lower; absence of upper preopercular pore (Ref. 76869).
