This species is characterized by a very long, slender body (depth 18.5 in length); very small head (length less than 13% TL); small eye (eye length less than 8% of head length); small pectoral fins (anterior margin ca. 8% TL); dorsal fins small, low, with narrowly rounded apices; body color greyish with darker bands separated by slightly diagonal, vertical rows of white spots; no dark collar-like marking over gill region (Ref. 76938).
