Etymology: Aphyosemion: Greek, aphye, -es, sardine, anchovy + Greek, semeion = mark, signal (Ref. 45335); omega: Named with regard to Chromaphyosemion alpha; alpha 'the beginning', omega 'the end' in Greek, in reference to the relative position within Chromaphyosemion with C. alpha as the basal species, C. omega as a more derived species.
