背棘 (总数) : 1; 背的软条 (总数) : 5; 臀鳍软条: 8 - 10; 脊椎骨: 30 - 33. Diagnosed by the following characters: space between anterior nostril and base of nasal barbel about equal to nostril diameter; anterior and posterior nostrils relatively small with diameter less than that of eye; anterior nostril situated at end of short tube; jaws subequal (lip of upper jaw projecting past lower jaw); caudal fin emarginate (not strongly forked); eye dorsolateral, not protruding above head when viewed from side; large depression below eye; posterior edge of pectoral spine with 1-3 small serrae (much less than half width of spine); obvious concavity on top of head extending from anterior median fontanel to posterior median fontanel with body ridge along either side formed by medial edges of frontals and supraoccipitals; ridges converge posteriorly at elevated supraoccipital process (Ref. 75761).
