Spine dorsali (totale) : 20 - 22; Raggi dorsali molli (totale) : 10 - 11; Spine anali: 3; Raggi anali molli: 7 - 8; Vertebre: 35. Diagnosed from other congeners by the following combination of characters: posterior border of preopercle serrated; scales in E1 row 48-51; isognathous jaws or slightly prognathous upper jaw; suborbital stripe present; flanks with five or six dark rectangular blotches just below the upper lateral line along dorsal-fin base; and vertical stripes absent (Ref. 75970).
