Etymology: Davidijordania: Because of Davis Starr Jordan (1851-1931), naturalist; he wrote near 50 books and 600 articles and scientific papers about ichthyology in Stanford University;  yabei: Named for Dr. Mamoru Yabe, Hokkaido University, in recognition of his numerous contributions to the systematics of marine fishes of the North Pacific Ocean..

Radios blandos dorsales (total) : 116 - 123; Radios blandos anales: 100 - 106; Vértebra: 118 - 125. This species is distinguished by the following set of characters: vertebrae 22-24 + 96-103 = 118-125; gill slit reaching ventrally almost to lower margin of pectoral-fin base; body and tail with distinct cream and reddish brown W-shaped saddles; single interorbital pore (Ref. 75208).
