The body is relatively deep, the head short and the snout bluntly rounded(Ref. 32347). Two pairs of short barbels are present (Ref. 32347). Small, offwhite tubercles are distributed over the sides of the snout (Ref. 32347). The mouth is wide and ventral; the lower jaw is short, its anterior edge gently curved and covered with a sharp-edged horny sheath (Ref. 32347). Dorsal fin has 4 unbranched and 10 branched rays, anal fin has 3 unbranched and 5 branched rays (Ref. 32347). Alcohol preserved specimens are dark grey-brown dorsally, silver-grey laterally and pale grey ventrally, the fins are pale grey (Ref. 32347). In life, the fishes were intensely silver, darkening dorsally (Ref. 32347).
This species can be found in the Juba River, a permanently flowing river through acacia woodland; the fish were caught in a shallow stretch where the water flows rapidly over shingle (Ref. 32347).
