Etymology: Knipowitschia: Because of N.M.Knipowitsch, a zoologist and Russian ichthyologist from the Academy of Sciences. Expeditions in "Pomor" and "Pervosvanniy" ships to Azov and Black sea (1898-1908).

Europe: Greece. Known only from the Pinios river system of Thessaly, which empties into the Thermaikos Gulf of the northern Aegean.

背棘 (總數) : 6 - 8; 背的軟條 (總數) : 7 - 9; 臀棘: 1; 臀鰭軟條: 7 - 9; 脊椎骨: 30 - 32. Anterior oculoscapular and preopercular head canals present; scales mostly restricted to axillary patch, but with scattered scales along lateral midline of caudal peduncle. Males with numerous thin vertical striae on flank.
前面的眼肩胛骨與前鰓蓋骨頭部管道呈現; 鱗片大部份侷限於腋窩的小區塊了, 但是有分散的鱗片沿著尾柄的側面中線。 在側面上雄性有很多的細垂直的陷紋。
