Espinas dorsales (total) : 3; Radios blandos dorsales (total) : 7; Espinas anales: 2 - 3; Radios blandos anales: 5 - 6; Vértebra: 39 - 42. Distinguished from its congeners in having skin densely covered with wart-like epidermal tubercles developed in both sexes at all the ontogenetic stages; 4 pectoral bony radials of distinct shape; anterior and posterior nares closely spaced; occipital canal interrupted, with 2+2 pores; caudal peduncle laterally compressed and shorter than the head; well-developed free air-bladder portion in the abdominal cavity; intestine long and spirally coiled; anterior fontanelle in the skull; 3 basibranchials and 2 pairs of infrapharyngobranchials in the branchial apparatus; epural considerably shortened, the pads of the breeding tubercles are weakly-developed in the preorbital region of the mature males (Ref. 57977).
