Short description Identification keys | Morphology | Morphometrics

Dorsal spines (total): 0; Dorsal soft rays (total): 11 - 12; Anal spines: 0; Anal soft rays: 14 - 16. Scales are cycloid: body and head are entirely scaled, except on ventral surface of head; frontal squamation is of G-type; scales on mid-longitudinal series 27-29 + 2-3 on caudal base (Ref. 57728). Episemion krystallinoron has a unique combination of male color characters: the dorsolateral body color of adult males is metallic blue-green, they have three or four more or less regular horizontal rows of red dots onn sides of body, beginning just behind head, and the unpaired fins contain blue to blue-green dots (Ref. 57728).

Biology     Glossary (e.g. epibenthic)

Occurs in fast flowing rivers of 4-5 m wide and 0.80-1 m deep; sandy bottoms and no aquatic vegetation; found amongst overhanging terrestrial vegetation (Ref. 57728).

Estimates based on models

Phylogenetic diversity index (Ref. 82804):  PD50 = 1.0000   [Uniqueness, from 0.5 = low to 2.0 = high].
Bayesian length-weight: a=0.01096 (0.00449 - 0.02680), b=2.92 (2.71 - 3.13), in cm total length, based on LWR estimates for this (Sub)family-body shape (Ref. 93245).
Trophic level (Ref. 69278):  3.2   ±0.5 se; based on size and trophs of closest relatives
Fishing Vulnerability (Ref. 59153):  Low vulnerability (10 of 100).
