Diagnosis: Lower lip with short, rounded projections lateral to the medial notch. Caudal peduncle is comparatively shallow (15.2-17.7% SL). Dorsal fin with 2 unbranched and 6 branched rays. Head depth small 19.9-21.8% SL; short first dorsal-fin ray 13.7-17.5% SL; maxillary barbels reaching lower lateral series plate 13-15 (Ref. 56211).
Obligate air-breathing (Ref. 126274); Collected in lakes or lake channels within dense marginal or floating vegetation, sometimes in hypoxic conditions (Ref. 56211).
