Short description Chiavi di identificazione | Morfologia | Morfometria

Raggi dorsali molli (totale) : 7 - 10; Raggi anali molli: 9 - 10; Vertebre: 32. Distinguished by the following autapomorphies: first proximal radial of dorsal fin of adult females located between arches neural of 14th and 15th vertebrae; wide and short trowel-like appendix of gonopodium at tip of R3; lateral border of left and right halves of trowel-like appendix of gonopodium concave; left and right halves of trowel-like appendix separated along approximately five-sixths of its whole extension; two round to elliptical dark blotches along ventral half of flanks; and presence of sexually dimorphic teeth (males teeth pointed with acute border; females teeth truncate, their superior border straight or slightly oblique. Further differs from its congeners by pleural ribs not associated with haemal arches in females; anal-fin proximal radials parallel in females. In addition, the number of epipleural ribs distinguishes Phallotorynus dispilos from P. jucundus and P. victoriae (13-14 vs. 11-12, respectively) (Ref. 56059).
