Differs from all putative congeners by having 17-19 gill rakers on the lower limb of the first arch (vs. 11-17). Further distinguished from all congeners by the combination of the following characters: a slender body, with depth 3.7-4.2 times in SL; 14-15 branched anal-fin rays; 26-28 lateral line scales, all of which bear lateral canals; flanks with golden-bronze reflective coloration overlain by dark brown chromatophores, and dark midlateral pigmentation stripe absent (Ref. 55980).
