Etymology: Placidochromis: Latin, placidus = of peaceful or tranquile appearance + Greek, chromis = a fish, perhaps a perch (Ref. 45335); nkhotakotae: Named after its type locality, Nkhotakota (Malawi) (Ref. 55898).
