Distinguished from all its congeners by the combination of the following characters: fifth infraorbital bone higher than wide, the presence of several narrow, wavy longitudinal stripes along the dorsolateral surfaces of the body, the darkened pectoral and pelvic fins, the presence of a distinct crescent- or V-shaped blotch on caudal peduncle and caudal fin, and the possession of 66-82 lateral line scales (Ref. 55407).
