Etymology: Sinocyclocheilus: Latin, sino, sina = from China + Greek, kyklos = circle + Greek, cheilos = lip (Ref. 45335)guilinensis: Derived from the name of the collection locality, Guilin City.

Raggi dorsali molli (totale) : 7; Raggi anali molli: 5; Vertebre: 36 - 37. Can be distinguished from all other species of the genus Sinocyclocheilus by the following combination of characters: completely scaled body; well developed eyes; last unbranched ray of dorsal fin soft, without serration; 19-20 scale rows above the lateral line and 11-12 below the lateral line; 34-36 scales around caudal peduncle; 8-11 gill rakers; 8-9 pre-dorsal vertebrae (Ref. 76842).
