Etymology: Tomicodon: Greek, tomikos, -e, -on = that is useful for cutting (Ref. 45335); briggsi: Named in honor of John C. Briggs, Georgia Museum of Natural History, in recognition of his pioneering monograph on clingfish systematics (Ref. 50106).
