Chrosomus tennesseensis is similar to C. oreas but can be distinguished by having smaller spots (smaller than eye pupil) on back and upper side, usually a thin black stripe present along side (above larger broken stripe), red on caudal fin and below stripe along side of large make, and 67-95 scales on lateral line (Ref. 86798).
Found in gravel-, sand-, and silt-bottomed pools of spring-fed headwaters (Ref. 5723, 10294, 86798).
