Etymology: Paraliparis: Greek, para = the side of + Greek, liparis = fat (Ref. 45335); rossi: Named to commemorate the two hundredth anniversary of the birth of the famous polar explorer and researcher Rear Admiral James Clark Ross (1800-1862) (Ref. 39425).

Body uniformly pale (pink in life), inside of upper lip pigmented. Peritoneum and gill cavity black, stomach pale (Ref. 39425).
