Africa: known from coastal rivers of Côte d'Ivoire (Ref. 2938, 7095, 81281). Previously known from the Bia (Ref. 272, 7095, 13331), but has disappeared here after the construction of Lake Ayamé in Côte d'Ivoire (Ref. 30488).

Dorsale zachte stralen (totaal) : 18 - 21; Anale zachte stralen: 26 - 30. Diagnosis: adipose-fin base shorter than distance separating it from rayed dorsal-fin; body depth 1.8-2.1x SL (specimens over 100 mm SL); small numerous scales; numerous cycloid scales; 68-73 scales in longitudinal line; 13 or 14 scales between lateral line and pelvic fin; 18-21 dorsal fin branched rays; 26-30 anal-fin branched rays (Ref. 2938, 81281).
Affinities: Citharinus citharus.
