Scales on predorsal midline 15 to 18, usually 16 to 17; scales in horizontal series 50 to 52, usually 51 to 52; breast scaled; an important reddish longitudinal band on outer margin on first and second dorsal fins on males and females, underlined with a white one (Ref. 48272).
Collected from freshwater streams mostly under tidal influence. Stream bottom consists mostly of shifting sand. Known to dive head first into sand when threatened (Ref. 48272).
