Etymology: Badis: 'badis' is presumably a Bengali local name, possibly derived from 'bhedo' or 'bheda', but it lacks a proper reference. Probably incorrect etymology (J. Müller, pers. comm., April 2021, after information from native speakers).

背面の脊椎 (合計) : 16 - 18; 背鰭 (合計) : 8 - 10; 肛門の骨: 3; 臀鰭: 6 - 8; 脊つい: 26 - 29. Possesses a dark blotch on the dorsolateral aspect of the caudal peduncle. Postorbital stripe angled. Caudal peduncle blotch large, extending dorsally across dorsal margin of caudal peduncle. Black spots in vertical bars on sides; faint pattern of alternating light and dark stripes along the side. Caudal fin base with 3 distinct dark blotches basally. Scales in lateral row 26-28 (Ref. 46238).
Inhabits small creeks with dense vegetation (Ref. 43281). It is common in roadside ditches and similar lentic habitats in lowland (Ref. 46238).
