Presence of 4-5 serrations along posterior edge of pectoral spine; iii-iv,7-8 anal-fin rays (total 10-11), and a more deeply forked caudal fin with regularly tapering lobes. Differs further from other Indochinese congeners in possessing fewer vertebrae (34-36 vs. 38-41); a deeper body (depth at anus 15.2-16.9% SL vs. 9.8-15.1) and equal upper and lower jaws (vs. longer and weakly-projecting lower jaw) (Ref. 37785).
Collected from a side arm of the main river in Xe Bangfai, among a gravel bed in the floodplain, in shallow water (less than 30 cm) and in Xe Pon, among stones and boulders in rapids (Ref. 37785).
