Vertebrae: 178 - 184. Head and trunk short, about 1.6-1.7 times in tail. Eyes small and covered with semitransparent membrane. Dorsal fin originates much behind the pectoral tip; dorsal and anal fins very low without any spots. Preoperculomandibular pores 5 + 2. Vertebrae 178-184 (Ref. 40862). Differs to O. aphotistos in having more vertebrae, 178-184 and 2 distinct papillae on the upper lip which is absent in aphotistos (Ref. 40865).
