Characterized by having escal morphology: esca with large, laterally compressed, internally pigmented anterior appendage, with membranous scalloped distal margin; pair of filamentous medial escal appendages, distal tips lightly pigmented in 52.5mm specimens; terminal escal papilla conical; posterior escal appendage short and compressed, with single small branch on posterior margin, and similar branch on each side; lateral and anterolateral escal appendages absent; subopercle without indentation on posterodorsal margin; ventral forks length of opercle 23.0-30.1% SL; ratio of lengths of dorsal and ventral forks of opercle 0.42-0.50; absence of epibranchial teeth; presence of teeth on pharyngobranchial II; upper jaw teeth 28-53, lower jaw teeth 34-53; teeth on vomer 4; dorsal fin rays 6; anal fin rays 4-5; pectoral fin rays 13-14; head length 33.3-41.0% SL; head depth 43.8% SL; premaxilla length 30.0-36.2% SL; length of lower jaw 43.6-52.4% SL; length of illicium 22.5-31.4% SL (Ref. 86949).
