Supraoccipital crest with truncate and rounded postero-dorsal margin. Fin coloration in life deep orangish-red. Anterior chest scales embedded and reduced in size.
Specimens collected in shallow, clear, moderate to swift flowing water; also from deeper pools or from under overhanging banks and vegetation. Diet highly variable, apparently an omnivore (Ref. 41510).
