Predorsal midline almost always with naked patches, four to 18 scales; pectoral base almost always naked; opercle almost always naked, breast naked, third and fourth spines of 1st dorsal fin may be slightly filamentous on males, body anteriorly, head and pectoral fins dusky in both sexes.
