Gobiesocidae (Clingfishes and singleslits) > Cheilobranchinae
Etymology: Posidonichthys: Taken from Poseidon, the sea god in ancient Greek, mithology + Greek, ichthys = fish (Ref. 45335).
Eponymy: Not an eponym, but named after the seagrass genus Posidonia. The clingfish is usually found living in this seagrass. The grass itself probably takes its name from the Greek god of the sea, Poseidon. Dr J Barry Hutchins (d: 1946) was Curator of Fishes at the Western Australian Museum (1998–2007), which he joined as a Technical Officer (1972) and where he worked until he retired.
