Etymology: Pterocryptis: Greek, pteron = wing, fin + Greek, kryptos = hidden (Ref. 45335); buccata: Specific name from the Latin bucca, meaning cheek, in allusion to the prominent mandibular muscles causing the cheeks to appear inflated.
