Etymology: Nandus: 'Nandus' is a Bengali local name, but it lacks a proper reference; ‘nanda’ is a Bengali fish name but probably for a different species (J. Müller, pers. comm., April 2021, after information from native speakers).

Distinguished from all other species of Nandus by its deep dorsal head profile and sharp snout, the presence of 37-42 lateral line scales interrupted at the 24th-27th lateral line scale and the presence of relatively large serrae on the preopercle.
Usually found in swamps and sluggish waters (Ref. 43281).
