Distinguished by the following combination: 2nd dorsal fin rays I/8-9; body with 5 or 6 lateral pale brown square blotches; and male with a horizontal grayish stripe on cheek and 4 small blackish-brown spots on ventral edge of cheek. Body with narrow brown stripes; anal fin with a simple and 8 branched rays (Ref. 43281).
