Taggstrålar i ryggfenan (totalt) : 0; Mjukstrålar i ryggfenan (totalt) : 6; Mjukstrålar i analfenan: 7 - 8; Ryggkotor: 31. First lepidotrichia of rayed dorsal and pectoral fins present as flexible, unbranched fin rays lacking serrations; structure of adult-male anal fin (seven proximal radials present, two posterior-most smaller than anterior ones); adipose fin absent or, if present, a long, low fin fold; and putative smaller maximum adult body size (1.5-2.2 cm SL).

Nocturnally active, inhabiting open waters of black-water streams and rivers. Taken near the surface in or near the main channels of rivers with moderate flow. The stomach contents of one specimen taken from the Rio Asisa include adult dipterans, including one whole individual of Sciaridae and large wing fragment of a Ceratopogonidae. Matures at 1.5-2.2 cm SL.
