Etymology: Potamotrygon: Greek, potamos = river + Greek, trygon = a sting ray (Ref. 45335).
Issue
Known from three specimens in collections, this species may be endangered because of high endemism (Rosa & Menezes, 1996). Reproductive biology unknown. Additional references: Walschaerts (1987), Compagno & Cook (1995).
