Etymology: Pterobrycon: Greek, pteryx = fin + Greek, bryko = to bite (Ref. 45335).
Eponymy: Hugh McKennan Landon (1867–1947) was an Indianapolis businessman and philanthropist who helped finance the Chocó, Colombia, expedition that collected the holotypes of both Hemiancistrus landoni and Pterobrycon landoni. (Ref. 128868), visit book page.
