South America: Brazil in lowlands around and to the east and west of the Guanabara Bay, Rio de Janeiro and lowlands around Santos, São Paulo.
Tamaño / Peso / Age
Maturity: Lm ?  range ? - ? cm
Max length : 2.6 cm SL macho / no sexado; (Ref. 37055)
Radios blandos dorsales (total) : 10 - 11; Radios blandos anales: 16 - 20; Vértebra: 32 - 34. Lacks infraorbital bone3; the relatively high counts of anal-fin ray (13-16) and ventral procurrent caudal fin ray count (14-17) for S. broccae relative to all other species of Spintherobolus appears autapomorphic for this species.
Inhabits dark-brown swamp waters. Appears to be found in somewhat acid waters in relatively lowland areas, in both swamps and slow moving streams, but only in areas where the streams remain unpolluted.
