Africa: mainly found on the Arabian Peninsula (Saudi Arabia and Yemen), but also in south-eastern Eritrea, south-eastern Ethiopia, and possibly also in Somalia (Ref. 58532). Reports from the Nile River basin, including Lake Tana, of specimens with a small mental disc, are misidentifications of other species (Ref. 96382). Its presence in Chad basin (Ref. 2940, 81282), where it is indicated as Garra cf. quadrimaculata, is not confirmed (Ref. 58532).

Estimates based on models

Phylogenetic diversity index (Ref. 82804):  PD50 = 0.5000   [Uniqueness, from 0.5 = low to 2.0 = high].
Bayesian length-weight: a=0.00759 (0.00331 - 0.01740), b=3.05 (2.88 - 3.22), in cm total length, based on LWR estimates for this Genus-body shape (Ref. 93245).
Resilienza (Ref. 120179):  Alto, tempo minimo di raddoppiamento della popolazione meno di 15 mesi (Preliminary K or Fecundity.).
Fishing Vulnerability (Ref. 59153):  Low vulnerability (10 of 100).
