Male with 6 spines in first dorsal fin, female with 5; pectoral rays almost always 15; dusky to blackish band extending midlaterally from behind pectoral base to below origin of second dorsal fin in male and ending as a small spot at hypural base in female; in life male with lower two thirds of body between second dorsal and anal fins, and caudal peduncle bright red.
在第一背鰭中雄魚有 6根棘, 母魚有 5; 胸鰭鰭條幾乎總是 15; 暗色的對在雄魚中在第二背鰭起點之下側面中央地從在後胸鰭基底到延伸而且母魚在尾下的基底尾端像一個小的斑點的黑色的條紋; 活著時雄魚有第二背鰭與臀鰭 , 和尾柄之間的低三分之二的身體鮮紅色。
Inhabits clear, swift, high gradient streams with bottom of boulders and gravel at elevations of 350 m and 500 m.
