Épines dorsales (Total) : 0; Rayons mous dorsaux (Total) : 35; Épines anales: 0; Rayons mous anaux: 45. More or less massive body than M. caballus. Narrow head (length/interorbital space ratio 10 to 1), snout similar to M. caballus. Uniformly dark with neck and stomach much clearer. With depression in the middle between gills and eyes. Eyes laterally situated. Anal fin origin before dorsal fin origin.
Affinities: M. caballus (Ref. 2915).
