Etymology: Astroblepus: Greek, astra = ray + Greek, blepo = to look (Ref. 45335).
Eponymy: Ayar Manco has been called the ‘Moses of the Peruvians’, because he led the exodus from Tampu-tocco to Cuzco about 1100 A.D. Whether he actually existed is unclear, but he mainly features in two legends concerning the origin of the Inca empire. (Ref. 128868), visit book page.
