Western Indian Ocean: known from three specimens from off Madagascar (Ref. 2152). Reported from the Comoro Islands (Ref. 41634).

Caudal fin slightly emarginate in juveniles to extremely lunate with filamentous lobes in adult males; six longitudinal dark brown lines on body (purple in life), only the sixth extending beyond the anterior half of body (it extends faintly to caudal peduncle).
Found in the outer reef slope of barrier reefs.
