Etymology: Porotergus: Greek, poros = porous + Latin, tergum = back, the upper plate or segment in an animal (Ref. 45335).
Eponymy: Jacob ‘Jake’ Gimbel (1876–1943) was an Indiana philanthropist. He financed the Gimbel Expedition (1911) to British Guiana (Guyana) where the holotype was collected. The author, Ellis (q.v.) was the expedition’s leader. (Ref. 128868), visit book page.
