Etymology: Parahypsos: Greek, para = the side of + Greek, hypsos = high (Ref. 45335).
Eponymy: C J Pierson was a member of the Panama Expedition (1896) of the Leland Stanford Junior University during which the type was collected. We have been unable to uncover any further biography. (Ref. 128868), visit book page.
