Europe: Lake Skadar basin (Montenegro and Albania). Believed to be extinct but this is probably not conclusive due to lack of reliable field data. Known only from museum specimens collected in 1881.

Diagnosed from congeners in Balkan Peninsula by the following characters: strongly arched mouth, lower lip with thin but well developed cornified sheath; scales on lateral line 51-59; ½8/1/4 scales in transverse row between dorsal-fin and pelvic-fin origins; dorsal fin with 8-9½ branched rays; anal fin with 9-10½ branched rays; and 14-17 gill rakers (Ref. 59043).
