Etymology: Plectroglyphidodon: Greek,plektron = anything to strike with, spur + Greek, glyphis = carved + Greek, odous = teeth (Ref. 45335).

Northwest Pacific: known only from Japan and the adjacent Ryukyu Islands. Recently reported from Taiwan (Ref. 12711) and South Korea (Ref. 77001).

Espinas dorsales (total) : 12 - 13; Radios blandos dorsales (total) : 15 - 17; Espinas anales: 2; Radios blandos anales: 12 - 13. Body color is medium brown, sometimes with slight diffusion of yellow. The edges of scales are narrowly bordered with dusky brown. The suborbital is lavender or blue and the lips are pale gray. The pectoral fins are translucent with brownish rays and yellow suffusion on posterior edge. A prominent black spot bordered with light blue is on the outer part of anterior dorsal spines running from base of 1st spine to distal tip of 5th or 6th spine.

Adults usually inhabit rocky reefs (Ref. 7247). Oviparous, distinct pairing during breeding (Ref. 205). Eggs are demersal and adhere to the substrate (Ref. 205). Males guard and aerate the eggs (Ref. 205).
