Etymology: Ameiurus: Greek, a = without + Greek, meiouros, -os, -on = without tail (Ref. 45335);  natalis: Ameiurus (Greek)=privative curtailed (referring to the caudal fin lacking a notch); natalis (Latin)=having large buttocks (Ref. 79012).
