Phenacobius uranops resembles the riffle minnow, P. catostomus, but can be distinguished by having more elongated body, longer snout, more elliptical eye, 52-61 scales on lateral line, and 13-16 scales around caudal peduncle (Ref. 86798).
Inhabits gravel and rubble runs and riffles of clear, fast creeks and small to medium rivers (Ref. 5723, 10294). Feeds on dipteran and caddis larvae (Ref. 10294).
