Etymology: Raja: Latin, raja, -ae = a sting ray (Raja sp.) (Ref. 45335).

Issue
The species does not belong to the genus Okamejei, evidenced e.g. by its overall appearance. Due to the lack of an adult male specimen, it is currently placed as incertae sedis in the general genus Raja (Ref. 101518).
