Short description

Has 9 branched dorsal rays; 5 branched anal rays; wide mouth with broad and massive lower jaw (width 22-26% in head length); rudimentary lower lips; pale yellow to grey caudal fin in life.
Occurs in the main stream of the middle Mekong during dry season (Ref. 12693) in deep slow reaches (Ref. 37769). Migrates to smaller streams or floodplains during rainy season (Ref. 12693). Found also in rapid-running mountain streams (Ref. 12975). Omnivorous, feeding on detritus, periphyton, worms and insects. Breeding occurs at the end of the rainy season, as water levels fall. Marketed fresh (Ref.12693).
