This peculiar mouth structure enables the fish to scrape aufwuchs (Ref. 39226).

Collected from a small stream about 3-5 m wide, in a narrow valley, up to 60 cm deep with moderate (in pools) to swift (in riffles) current, over sand and pebbles (pools) or boulders and pebbles (riffles). The stomach and intestine of a 4.17 cm SL fish contained vegetable remains (Ref. 39226).
