Depressed head and somewhat cylindrical body; usually a very dark to almost completely black body, with green or yellowish spots (in life) more or less organized in in vertical bars (Ref. 27732). Ocellus or black blotch at upper extremity of caudal base (Ref. 43281).
Adults are found in medium to large-sized rivers (Ref. 12975). They feed on insects and zooplankton. Occasionally marketed in mixed catches (Ref. 12693).
